Statement of Significance

What is significant?
Ben Nevis railway station was opened in 1890 and closed in 1954 . It also acted as the terminus of another
abandoned railway line to Navarre, a community in the Wimmera region of Victoria. And so, despite its
minimal facility, it required a stationmaster to ensure safe running at the junction.
Prior to the construction of the Navarre line, the station site was known as Crowlands, subsequently it was
changed to Ben Nevis, as the new Crowlands Station was created on the Navarre line to the north.
