STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

The Ashby Presbytery of the Catholic Church of S.S. Peter and Paul was erected as a two storey Dutch Renaissance Revival style brick residence in 1915. The architects were Slevin and Black, authors of the earlier constructed adjacent Parish Hall. The Ashby Presbytery is constructed in a style rarely found in Victoria and with characteristic Edwardian decorative motifs and materials. The structure is one of the most notable works of architects Slevin and Black and an integral part of an important Catholic Church complex in West Geelong which dared from the early 1850's and which is dominated by the basalt church designed by William Wardell, architect.
