STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

Historically, built for one of the towns more successful doctors, Dr. Stephen Smith, the house was occupied over a longer period by the prominent Alfred Grimwade, member o t he important Grimwade family who managed the Felton Grimwade and resulting chemical manufacturing companies after the founders death in 1910. Architecturally, it is a superior and early example on a Statewide basis of the American Queen Anne revival style, a style of which Geelong has some of the States best examples.
