[Additional information supplied informally by the Heritage Advisor, 12 December 2016:

This building was designed by the local Geelong architect Norman Schefferle in 1928. He called tenders for a "proposed brick shop and residence, Melbourne Road, North Geelong, for Mr W. Bennett" in the Geelong Advertiser, 13 June 1928, p.9].

STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

157,159,159A Melbourne Road has architectural significance at a local level. The building is an unusual example of a 1920s double storey brick commercial property which is substantially intact. The building retains its characteristic siting, form and details including a prominent gables at the front, a decorative gable infill panel, an assortment of windows, and1920s shop fronts
