STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

A characteristic timber late Edwardian house with most unusual fretwork decorative detail derived from English Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau and other eclectic sources, and built in 1915. It is architecturally significant locally as a late variant ofthis domestic style and for the craftsmanship and eclectic sources ofits decorative detail. It is historically significant in embodying life in Newtown in the early years ofthe Great War and as evidence ofthe survival of the building industry into the war years.
