Location66 Skene Street, NEWTOWN VIC 3220 - Property No 205139 LevelIncl in HO area indiv sig |
C Listed - Local Significance
STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE
An early Picturesque rendered brick cottage with several unusual characteristics (which may be explained by further research), built about 1870 and tenanted for at least its first 60 years. It is architecturally significant as a relatively rare example of this early domestic style in Newtown and historically in embodying and early way of life of domestic tenants in 1870's Newtown.
INTACTNESS: Fair. Verandahs have been modified and anachronistic Composite posts and valances installed. The left side of the verandah has been added. The fence is anachronistic, thought not recent. The building's colour scheme is not appropriate.
CONDITIONS AND THREATS: Very good, but the very low floor is at ground level, although some floor vents have been introduced
