STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

"Eumeralla", a single storey villa in the picturesque mode was erected prior to 1856 for Geelong settler James Simson. Additions were constructed in 1856 and 1858. The majority of the 19th century work was undertaken by Architect, Joseph L. Shaw, in partnership with Richard Dowden. This slate roofed rendered brick villa has interesting associations with early Geelong and the development of the City of Newtown. "Eumeralla" was probably named after "Eumeralla", a pastoral station at Macarthur, in Western Victoria.
