STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

This timber cottage has regional historical associations with an early Newtown industry, the tanneries which operated in the vicinity from the 1850s. "Riverdale" was owned and occupied at first in 1891 by Josiah Windmill, tanner, who was a member of a well known local family of quarrymen and tanners.
