B Listed - Regional Significance
'Hillside', at 147 Noble Street, Newtown, was erected on a prominent corner site in 1910 to Australian Queen Anne style designs by Geelong architects, Laird and Buchan. The residence is a characteristic composition of the period, utilizing octagonal towers, prominent gables, turned timber verandah with ornamental fretter woodwork, red and yellow banded brickwork and decorative stained and coloured glass. The house is monumental and picturesque but considered a conservative example of this style in the pre-war Edwardian period.
