Location278 Latrobe Terrace, NEWTOWN VIC 3220 - Property No 202412 LevelIncl in HO area indiv sig |
C Listed - Local Significance The single storey brick residence at 278 Latrobe Terrace, Newtown, was erected at an unknown date as a typical Italianate style villa, symmetrically planned and with a rusticated rendered masonry facade and slate roof. The residence has been substantially defaced and has insufficient architectural integrity and no apparent historical associations to warrant listing on the Geelong Regional Commission Register of Historic Places. Former Athel Stane is a brick Italianate house built in 1890. Although its value has been diminished by substantial alteration, it is architecturally significant locally as characteristic of this domestic style and historically significant as a representative embodiment of comfortable family life at the height of the economic boom in Newtown. References The history of this residence has not been researched in detail. The documentation sources consulted revealed no important or relevant architectural or historical data. A search of the relevant local government authority Rate Books may indicate date of construction and original owner of structure.
