STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

"Torbank" is architecturally significant at state level as an interestingly designed large brick Edwardian house of great formal complexity. Built in 1896, the designer is not known. The massive chimney is of particular interest, as is the fact that the house continues to face the view whilst still deferring to the street.

"Torbank" has state historical significance for its associations with A. N. Vines, coach proprietor, who, with his father, Joshua, provided coaching and transport services for the Western District centred on Geelong during the colonial period. This firm contributed to Geelong s role as one of two major centres of the coaching boom in Victoria.
