STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE

The building at 202 Aberdeen Street has strong historical association, from at least 1847, with the former Shearer's Arms Hotel. The exact date of the existing building is unclear but it appears part of it was built by 1850 and pre dates the gold rushes. Together with the harp Inn, it stands as one of the two earlier single storey former hotels still remaining in Geelong West. It is of State significance.

POLICY /RECOMMENDATIONS: National Estate Register, GRPS, Geelong West Schedule, National trust of Australia (Victoria) Register.

Removal of porch and some of the post war additions, a more sympathetic fence, colour scheme and window joinery would greatly enhance the character of this building.
