Why is it Significant?

Historically, it is significant as one of a number of commercial buildings that demonstrate the major development of the Newport commercial centre during the inter-war period. (AHC criterion A4)

Aesthetically, it is significant as a good example of the Moderne style applied to a commercial building, which is rare in the municipality. It makes an important contribution on a prominent corner site to the historic character of the Newport Civic & Commercial precinct. (AHC criteria B2 and E1)
