What is Significant?
'Waverley', constructed in 1891, at 116 Dover Road, Williamstown. 'Waverley' at 116 Dover Road, Williamstown is of local historic and aesthetic significance to the City of Hobsons Bay. Historically, it is significant as a representative example of a house that demonstrates the early speculative development that occurred in this area just prior to the 1890s recession. (AHC criteria A4 and D2) Aesthetically, it is significant as a locally rare and superior example of an asymmetrical Victorian Italianate villa constructed in brick, which is notable for its projecting bay, bi-chromatic brickwork and other detailing. (AHC criteria B2, E1 and F1)
