1. Historically significant for its association with Invergowrie (Burwood)., its owner Palmer and the St. James Park Estate.

2. Architecturally significant as probably one of the oldest surviving buildings in the State, as a rare, mansion gatehouse, and for its picturesque Gothic form compatible with the mansion.

3. A discrete landmark in Burwood Road, its position must have in part determined the eventual position of Coppin Grove
