Statement of Significance
Architecturally: a generally original and skillfully designed example
of an important architectural style, which found its expression in a
narrow field of architecture, notably post offices and banks (State
Savings Banks) also one of a civic group in Hawthorn's civic centre:
of high regional importance. Historically: one of two post office buildings within this civic
group, the former office having been in the western wing of the
municipal offices and a prominent public building: of local importance.
