Statement of Significance

1. Hawthorn Station is of state significance as the first extension of the suburban system across the Yarra River, the infrastructure for which was instrumental in the subsequent suburban development of the easter suburbs.

2. The overall complex with platforms, buildings, ramps, crossover bridge etc. is amongst the most complete, early 20th century station complexes in the Metropolitan system.
