The Barnawartha War Memorial has social significance as a landmark and war memorial and occupies a prominent place in the main street of the town. It is a poignant reminder of the devastating losses suffered by rural Australian communities during the two World Wars. The memorial historical significance as a monument which was constructed utilising stones from the Burrowes flour mill, a massive industrial building which dominated the Barnawartha streetscape until it was destroyed during the 1952 bushfires.
