Statement of Significance

The Bass War Memorial is of social, historic and aesthetic significance. The Memorial is of social significance as it commemorate those who fought and died in the First and Second World Wars and subsequent theatres of war. A simple obelisk on a high granite plinth. it is of historic and aesthetic significance as a symbol of the efforts of the local community in raising funds to honour those who died. The Bass War Memorial is one of many found in Australian towns and cities, commemorating those who died for their country. The importance of the Memorial is enhanced by the added memorial to those who died in later theatres of war in Malaya, Korea, Borneo and Vietnam between 1948 and 1971.
