What is significant? The 1964 additions to the hall are not significant. How is it significant? Why is it significant? The hall is of architectural significance as a representative example of a simple public building that demonstrates the use of fire-resistant materials in the mid-twentieth century. (Criterion D) The war memorial is historically significant as a one of a series of memorials erected after World War One that provides tangible evidence of the impact of that conflict upon local communities. (Criterion A) It is socially significant as a place has strong and enduring associations with the Hill End community and remains the focus of remembrance day commemorations. The enduring connection is demonstrated by the memorials to other conflicts that have been added to the memorial over time. (Criterion G)

The immediate rebuilding of the hall in 1941 after it was destroyed by fires demonstrated the importance of the building to the community (Criteria A & G).
