Why is it significant?
The building at 124-130 Mount Street has local historic significance
for its association with commercial development in the Heidelberg area
that coincided with the residential boom of the 1920s. Its importance
is heightened by the fact that it is one of few Inter war buildings
remaining in the Burgundy Street commercial area. (Criterion A) The building has aesthetic significance as a prominent and flamboyant
example of an Interwar commercial building in Banyule. It is notable
for the cupola, and the original wall finishes and windows at the
upper floor level. (Criterion E) It is also significant for its combination of Edwardian Freestyle and
Bungalow elements, reflecting a period of transition from traditional
to a more modern design approach. As an example of and Inter war
commercial building, it is without parallel in Banyule. (Criterion E)
