The Norfolk Island pine at no. 42 Mercer Street is of historical significance as a mature and prominent example of one of Queenscliffe's signature trees, and for its connection with Roseville Cottage. The tree is also of aesthetic significance as one of a number of specimens which help to define the character of Queenscliff, having a strong maritime association and being a dominant feature of the skyline. The elevated position of the tree and its impressive size reinforce its aesthetic significance.
