Location36 Kirk Road POINT LONSDALE, QUEENSCLIFFE BOROUGH LevelIncl in HO area indiv sig |
|
Statement of Significance as recorded under the Queenscliff Heritage Study 2009 No. 36 Kirk Road is of historical and architectural significance to the Borough of Queenscliffe. Historically, the property is significant for its association with early twentieth century development at Point Lonsdale, including the area's growing popularity as the location for summer houses. It also has an association with Alfred Deakin, as the first owner of the house, albeit comparatively short-lived. Architecturally, no. 36 Kirk Road appears to be both a development on the local 1900s verandah types, and a prototype for the group of gridded verandah frieze houses that appeared around 1912 and after in the area. It also appears to be largely in its original condition, albeit dilapidated.
