Statement of Significance

What is significant?
The site is highly disturbed and the remaining physical feature of the site is a large mullock heap. Given the alignment of the heap’s two dumping lines the shaft would most likely have been located at the west end (or toe) of the heap. The ground adjacent to the western end of the mullock has been excavated to a depth of approximately two metres to form a levee bank for a open drainage channel. The excavation to create this levee bank would have removed all traces of the shaft’s machinery foundations, and presumably when the work was done, the shaft was filled.
