Why is it significant?
The house is of historical significance because of its association withthe development of private homes to guest house use during the 1920s.

Of state significance because the garden is associated with FerdinandVon Mueller, director of Melbourne's Botanic Gardens in 1867 who was afriend of the first owner C.H. Kauper. It also has associations with MrGuilfoyle, Curator of the Botanic Gardens from 1873 who helped ThomasKennon design the house and gardens.
