Folly Farm is important as an example of the style of the renowned garden designer, Edna Walling, exhibiting the following characteristics of her style: a natural planting style with mixed shrub and tree groups; subdued use of coloured flowers; spaces defined by curved beds of mass shrub planting; subtle use of plant textures and form to create aesthetic effects; and, use of natural stone for paving and walls with absence of man made modern elements (Criterion D.2). The Garden is important for exhibiting artistic excellence by the following: the reliance on leaf and trunk colour and texture and plant form for distinctive scenery composition; the contribution of the natural design with curving lines, flowing lawns and scalloped shrubberies to the garden aesthetic; and, the linking between the driveway, the main garden and the Parkland (Criterion F.1).
