Statement of Significance

This turn-of-the-century puddling machine site is comparatively well preserved, with a deep trench, sections of side slabbing, a well preserved timber chute in the outlet channel, and a bank of wash.

The Puddler No. 1, Rostrons is historically and scientifically important at a LOCAL level as a substantially intact example of an important gold mining technique. Gold mining sites are of crucial importance for the pivotal role they have played since 1851 in the development of Victoria.
