Statement of Significance

The former Presbyterian Church dates from 1849 when the foundation stone was laid for a simple rectangular plan stone structure with simple rectangular openings. The size and appearance of the building changed radically in 1865 when the Tyers Street wing was added with its fine stonework and dressed stone window mouldings. The architect was Daniel Nicholson. This elevation has unfortunately been altered in recent years by the installation of a new entrance doorway. The Church is one of the oldest in the town and its simple materials and craftsmenship reflect these early times. The later wing is a notable example of the work of Daniel Nicholson.
