Location21 Sloane Street STAWELL, NORTHERN GRAMPIANS SHIRE LevelRec for HO area contributory |
|
The house at 21 Sloane Street, Stawell, makes a significant architectural and visual contribution to the predominantly late 19th and early 20th century residential area. It is significant at a CONTRIBUTORY level, being associated with residential developments in Stawell in the interwar period (c.1920s-1940s), and it demonstrates some remnant and appropriate design qualities of a late interwar Bungalow style. These qualities include the asymmetrical triple-fronted composition, single storey height, hipped roof forms, terra cotta roof cladding, horizontal timber weatherboard wall cladding, elongated face brick chimneys with soldier course cappings, wide eaves, timber framed double hung windows with multi-paned upper sashes, timber framed fixed windows with decorative leadlighting, and the flat roofed corner porch supported by paired square timber columns. The well-landscaped garden with mature shrubs and trees, and the timber post and rail and woven wire fence also contribute to the visual amenity of the place.
