Location26 Skene Street STAWELL, NORTHERN GRAMPIANS SHIRE LevelRec for HO area contributory |
|
The house at 26 Skene Street, Stawell, makes a significant architectural and visual contribution to the predominantly late 19th and early 20th century residential area. It is significant at a CONTRIBUTORY level, being associated with residential developments in Stawell in the late 19th or early 20th century and it demonstrates some important design qualities of a Late Victorian style. These qualities include the recessed hipped roof form that traverses the site, together with the hipped roof that projects towards the street frontage; timber wall cladding simulating masonry blockwork; brick chimney with a corbelled top; narrow eaves with timber brackets; and the timber framed windows and doorway. The front capped timber picket fence also contributes to the significance of the place.
