|
The house at 24 Skene Street, Stawell, makes a significant architectural and visual contribution to the predominantly late 19th and early 20th century residential area. It is significant at a CONTRIBUTORY level, being associated with residential developments in Stawell in the late 19th or early 20th century and it demonstrates some important design qualities of the interwar Californian Bungalow style. These qualities include the gable roof form that traverses the site, together with the verandah gable that projects towards the street frontage; single storey height; asymmetrical composition; elongated face brick chimney with a capped soldier course top; timber framed double hung windows, broad eaves with exposed timber rafters, stuccoed verandah columns and piers; timber framed entrance doorway; and the decorative gable infill (ventilator, stuccoed panelling and timber battening).
