Statement of Significance

The house at 14 Skene Street, Stawell, makes a significant architectural and visual contribution to the predominantly late 19th and early 20th century residential area. It is significant at a CONTRIBUTORY level, being associated with residential developments in Stawell in the late 19th or early 20th century and it demonstrates some important design qualities of a rudimentary Victorian style. These qualities include the simple gable roof form that traverses the site, the return gable roof with decorative timber barge board, the central timber framed doorway with flanking timber framed double hung windows, galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding and the horizontal timber weatherboard wall cladding. The early rounded timber picket fence at the front also contributes to the significance of the place.
