The building at 105 Main Street, Stawell, is historically and architecturally significant at a CONTRIBUTORY level. Although the shopfront has been greatly altered, the remnant rendered brick parapet with a central pediment flanked by decorative scrolls, moulded parapet stringcourse and flanking decorative blocks supported by consoles, together with the rear gable roof form (but not the recent cream brick additions), are those particular elements that contribute to the historical and architectural amenity of the area.
Opportunities may be available for the appropriate reconstruction of the 19th century facade through a lithograph dated 1888 held by the Stawell Historical Society. This lithograph shows the building (then G. Barnes's drapery, clothing and millinery store) with parapet piers crowned with urns, projecting skillion verandah supportive by round columns, and a timber framed four-bayed shopfront with a side ingo and door opening.
