Statement of Significance
What is significant?
How is it significant?
Why is it significant?
The building at 77-79 Main Street, Stawell, is historically and architecturally significant at a CONTRIBUTORY level. Although the shopfront has been greatly altered, the rear double gable roof form clad in galvanised corrugated iron, parapeted face brick wall construction to the rear gable end, side brick wall construction (but not the overpainting), and the rectilinear gable ventilator are those particular elements that contribute to the historical and architectural amenity of the area. The heritage value of this rear form and construction is reliant on the retention of the rear form and construction of the neighbouring building at 81-83 Main Street, given that both shopfronts form part of one original building complex.
