The house at 21 Childe Street, Stawell, has significance as a moderately intact example of a Late Victorian style. Although no details have been ascertained in support of its history, the Late Victorian design suggests that it was constructed in the late 19th or very early 20th century. The house appears to be in good condition when viewed from the street. The house at 21 Childe Street is historically and architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with residential developments in Stawell in the late 19th and very early 20th centuries. It also demonstrates original design qualities of a Late Victorian style. These qualities include the gable roof form that traverses the site, together with the gable and hipped verandah that project towards the street frontage. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the asymmetrical composition, single storey height, horizontal timber weatherboard wall cladding, galvanised corrugated steel roof cladding, brick chimney with a corbelled top, narrow eaves, stop chamfered timber verandah columns, simple timber verandah fretwork valance, timber framed double hung windows and the timber framed doorway. Overall, the house at 21 Childe Street is of LOCAL significance.
