Statement of Significance

The house at 15 Silvermines Road, St. Arnaud, has significance as a reasonably externally intact example of a Late Victorian style. The design qualities of this house suggest that it was constructed in the late 19th or early 20th century.

The house at 15 Silvermines Road is historically and architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with residential developments in St. Arnaud in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Although partially altered, the house also demonstrates original design qualities of a Late Victorian style. These qualities include the hipped roof form, together with a return convex verandah that projects towards the front and side. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the single storey height, horizontal weatherboard wall cladding, green corrugated Colorbond roof cladding, unpainted brick chimney with a multi-corbelled top, narrow overhangs with worked and paired timber brackets, roundels and panelling, centrally located timber framed doorway having a four panelled timber door and transom, timber framed double hung windows and the square timber verandah posts.

Overall, the house at 15 Silvermines Road is of LOCAL significance.
