The Sebastopol Rock has significance as a natural rockform which is in the shape of a bell and is in the vicinity of several large 19th century gold mines. Remnants of an old mine shaft also remain nearby. The Sebastopol Rock and surrounding area are aesthetically, historically and socially significant at a LOCAL level. The rock and the surrounding area demonstrate picturesque visual qualities which are recognised by the St. Arnaud community for recreational purposes. The rock and area are also associated with the gold mines that were established from the late 1850s until the early 1900s, including the Cornstock, Silver Mines, Lady Nelson, Sawpit, Walker, Zimmerina, Warwickshire and Queenslander. The Sebastopol Rock and surrounding area are of LOCAL significance. RECOMMENDED LEVEL OF SIGNIFICANCE: LOCAL
