Statement of Significance

The former post office and store, 10 Station Street, Marnoo, has significance as a fairly externally intact example of an early 20th century commercial building still surviving in the township. Erected in 1909, this building appears to be in fair-good condition when viewed from the street.

The former post office and store, 10 Station Street, is architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. Although altered, it still demonstrates original design qualities of the early 20th century. These qualities include the simple broad gable roof form, stepped parapet and the projecting skillion verandah at the front. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the single storey height, galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, pressed metal parapet wall cladding, horizontal weatherboard wall cladding, boxed timber framed double hung windows supported by small timber brackets, simple square timber verandah posts and the vertical panelled cladding to the upper ends of the verandah.

The former post office and store, 10 Station Street, is historically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with commercial and infrastructure developments in Marnoo in the early 20th century. In particular, this building has associations with a Mr. Moore, original owner, who instigated the construction in 1909 as a post office and residence.
