The Marnoo State School building, 80-82 Newall Street, Marnoo, has significance as a reasonably externally intact interwar school building. Built in 1926-27, the building appears to be in good condition when viewed from the street. The Marnoo State School building is architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It demonstrates original design qualities of the interwar (1920s-1940s) period. These qualities include the gambrel roof form and the elongated unpainted red brick chimney with a soldier course capping. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the single storey height, corrugated profile to the roof cladding (but not material), wide eaves, timber framed multipaned windows, painted masonry window sills, and the signage panel that reads "Marnoo School 1554". The garden setting also contributes to the significance of the place. The Marnoo State School building is historically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with the development of the Marnoo State School from 1926-27, replacing an earlier school building. Marnoo had been served with a State School as early as 1875 when the first teacher was appointed to the town, and the school was relocated four times until the completion of State School No. 1554 in 1926-27. The Marnoo State School building is socially significant at a LOCAL level. It is recognised and valued by the Marnoo community for education reasons. Overall, the Marnoo State School building is of LOCAL significance.
