Statement of Significance

Of State significance as one of the most visible components of the remarkable Melbourne sewerage scheme, most of which is out of sight, underground. The construction of the Outfall Sewer 1893, including this bridge over Kororoit Creek, was an outstanding technical achievement and one of the largest public works projects ever carried out in Australia up to that time. The grandiose character of the aqueduct reflects the importance of the scheme and the quality of the civil engineering work of the period.
