Statement of Significance

The gates are one of few memorials in the St.Albans area and provide a tangible link to the earlier, and now much-obscured, history of St.Albans. They are of local significance for their association with a pioneering family of the district and for their aesthetic contribution to the area, reflecting as they do both the underlying basalt and the character of the earliest form of building (rubble bluestone).
