Statement of Significance
Swedes Cut Take-Off Channel, Swedes CreekRoad, Glenorchy, is significant as an early attempt to supply water to the northern areas of the state and as an early part of the Wimmera Mallee Domestic and Stock Supply system which grew to become one of the largest of its kind in the world. The channel was made obsolete by the introduction of the channel system in 1914 and is now dry except in times of flood. Swedes Cut Take-Off Channel, Swedes CreekRoad, Glenorchy, is historically and scientifically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with the Wimmera-Mallee stock and domestic water supply system which grew to become one of the largest of its kind in the world.
