The Wimmera Hotel, 2-18 Cameron Street, has significance as a moderately intact example of a Victorian style, and as a legacy of 19th century commercial developments at Glenorchy. Although the date of construction is not known, the hotel was built by James Templar, possibly in the second half of the 19th century. There is evidence of serious rising and falling damp at the side of the building, causing deterioration in the brickwork and mortar joints. The Wimmera Hotel at Glenorchy is architecturally significant at a LOCAL level. It demonstrates original design qualities of a Victorian style. These qualities include the long hipped roof form that traverses the site, together with the brick chimneys having corbelled tops, and the painted brick wall construction. Other intact or appropriate qualities include the skillion verandah that projects towards the street frontage, timber verandah posts, galvanised corrugated iron roof cladding, timber framed double hung windows, central timber framed doorway with four panelled door, single storey height, symmetrical composition and the lack of eaves. The Wimmera Hotel at Glenorchy is historically significant at a LOCAL level. It is associated with commercial developments at Glenorchy in the 19th century. In particular, the building is associated with James Templar, original owner who instigated construction. Overall, the Wimmera Hotel at Glenorchy is of LOCAL significance.
